Two-time All-American at Ohio University where he captained the Bobcat wrestling team to three Mid-American Conference titles and national ranking in 1969, 1970 and 1971. Was twice named the outstanding wrestler in the league. Holds seven OU season and career records including a career dual meet mark of 36-0 and won six Lake Erie AAU championships.
Ohio high school 133-lb. champion at West Tech High in 1952 and repeated in 1953 at 138-lbs. At Ohio University he won Mid-American Conference and Four-I championships at 147 pounds in 1957 and was MAC runner-up in 1955.
After graduating from West Tech and Ohio University, where he won three Mid-American Championships, Steve Rudo, Jr. was named an All-American in 1957. He is a member of the Ohio University athletic and Wrestling Hall of Fame. Steve’s twenty years of coaching at Valley Forge High School led to numerous conference titles, two state runner-up titles and the Ohio state Championship in 1973.
One of the legends in the annuls of Ohio High School wrestling, Euclid coach Clarence Eckert had a dual meet record of 246-42-4, ranking among the top coaches of all time. Three state titles and six district crowns were included among his successes.
